As parents, it’s quite frustrating to hear your kid say that they hate maths. Even though their grades might not be falling, knowing your child hates something that might be useful in the future is difficult to hear.
But, honestly, if they’re not taught correctly, there are about a million reasons that can make them hate it. They might not know the benefits of it, they might think it’s boring, they might struggle with it, or they might think it’s only for getting grades. If that's the case with your child, then there’s no way they would say “I love maths.”
Fortunately, there’s actually a way to help them at least enjoy maths.
How to make children love maths
Here’s some ways to make your kids say “I love maths”.
1. Help Find A Different Angle
Your kids might hate maths because they don’t see the way to solve a problem. If that’s the case, help them to see a problem in a different way, showing new ways of interpreting and solving the questions that they can understand easier.
2. Set A Timer When Learning
Some kids hate maths because they find it boring. But it might be because they got bored after doing it for too long. So when teaching your kids, try to set a timer for around 25 minutes at a time.
3. Make Them Engage In A Relatable Problem
One of the most common reasons a kid hates maths is that they don’t know “why” they’re doing it. That’s why you need to find a relatable condition where learning maths is useful to you and will be useful to them in the future.
4. Play A Game
Kids love playing games. Most of the time, it’s not because of the game itself, but because of the novelty of the levels and story within it. So try to make a game using maths, or you can find some online maths games to help them enjoy maths.
5. Practice
Maths isn’t enjoyable if you find it difficult. Practice will not only make perfect, but along the way it will help them to enjoy math as well. Why? Because getting better at something makes it more interesting.
